Activated Charcoal Mask

Activated Charcoal Mask

Let’s get spooky! This activated charcoal mask is all natural and has no frightening ingredients, but you might just scare the pants off someone while you are wearing it. [Sorry in advance!!] This is one of my favourite face masks… just in time for Halloween. If I can’t think of a costume to wear, I may just hand out treats as Bat Girl or Cat Woman in my face mask 😉

Let's get spooky! This activated charcoal mask is all natural and has no frightening ingredients, but you might just scare the pants off someone while you are wearing it.

Ingredients

Activated charcoal comes in capsule or powder form and works through a process called adsorption. Instead of absorbing like a sponge, it adsorbs (binds with / attaches to) toxins and impurities to removes them from the skin. Activated charcoal is sourced from coconuts or hardwood (this is not the charcoal from your BBQ or firepit).

Bentonite clay is a medicinal healing clay made of the ash from volcanoes. It can help to unclog and shrink pores, remove toxins from the skin, and reduce the appearance of acne, blackheads, and acne scars.

How to Make an Activated Charcoal Mask

Add 1/4 tsp activated charcoal powder to a non-metal bowl.

Next, add 1 tsp of bentonite clay

Add 1 1/2 tsp of water and begin to mix using a non-metal utensil. Try a wooden fork or silicone mini whisk to get rid of any lumps.

Apply the mask to your face (avoiding eyes, nostrils, mouth and hairline) using fingers or mask brush and let the magic happen for about 15-20 minutes while the mask dries. Be careful, activated charcoal will stain fabrics and your grout! Rinse off with warm water, or to prevent a mess, rinse it off in the shower. [“I mean it” says the girl with a charcoal stain on the front of her grey shirt…]

Enjoy your beautiful soft skin. Not so spooky after all!

Happy Charcoal Masking 🙂

Have you tried an activated charcoal mask before? What is your favourite mask?
