Peppermint Bath Salts
What do I want to do in the middle of this cold winter? Relax in a hot bath… that smells like candy canes! Winter is the time I enjoy many cozy activities like drinking tea, reading a book, wearing onesie pajamas, watching movies, hot baths, and more!
Ingredients
Epsom salts are not actually a salt, but a mineral compound of magnesium sulfate. They help to reduce inflammation, relax sore muscles and joints, flush out toxins, and improve blood circulation.
Baking soda makes the water more alkaline which helps our body to flush out toxins. When baking soda is added to bath water, it helps with many skin conditions by relieving itchy skin and soothes eczema, hives, and psoriasis. It also helps to eliminate body odour.
Peppermint essential oil is cooling, tingly, and helps with reducing muscle and joint pain. It works wonders for tension headaches and migraines as well. Peppermint essential oil is also an expectorant, which helps to clear mucus from airways and sinuses. This makes it perfect for all those winter sickies!
How to Make Peppermint Bath Salts
Choose a container to mix in and use right away or store for later use. Preferably glass or ceramic, since we will be adding essential oils. The ingredients need to be mixed together before being added to the bath water, otherwise the essential oils will sit on top of the bath water.
Add 1 cup of epsom salts and 1/4 cup of baking soda to the container.
Next, add 5 drops of peppermint essential oil (Young Living or Plant Therapy).
*Try spearmint essential oil (Young Living or Plant Therapy) instead, if using this recipe for children age 2-15 or pregnant/nursing mamas. Safety first!*
I often make this recipe while I am cleaning my essential oil bottles and have it ready to go!
{I use and recommend Young Living Essential Oils and Plant Therapy Essential Oils because they are 100% pure quality essential oils. There are other reputable essential oil companies to purchase from. Your local drug store’s cheap essential oil can give you a rash and not have the same positive effects because most only contain about 10% of the pure oil and the rest is filled with synthetics. Do your research and find a company you feel comfortable purchasing from.}
Mix all the ingredients together and add it all to a hot bath, store for later use, or package up in a cute jar as a gift!
Happy Bath Soaking 🙂
