Natural After Shave
When you make him try all your natural recipes and he finally requests one! WIN! I found Joe searching through my essential oil stash for Lavender after he shaved. Shaving can cause irritation, dry skin, ingrown hairs, and razor burn. I made him this Natural After Shave that soothes, refreshes, and moisturizes skin.
Ingredients
Witch Hazel is an astringent (causing tissues to contract and shrinking pores), which makes it a great ingredient for skincare. It can also help to reduce inflammation and skin irritations. It also soothes and prevents razor burn. Choose an alcohol-free one to prevent skin drying and a burning feel on cuts.
Aloe Vera Gel is a soothing and refreshing ingredient. It helps to moisturize dry skin without leaving a greasy feel. It has anti-inflammatory properties and soothes irritated and broken skin.
Essential oils have many skin benefits. I chose a combination of essential oils that feel soothing and refreshing on the skin.
How to Make Natural After Shave
Add 3/4 cup of witch hazel to a glass container of choice. Decide on how you would like to apply the after shave and choose either a spray top or a dropper.
Next, add 1/4 cup of aloe vera gel. Not that green bottle from the department store…
Put 30 drops of essential oils in the container. Avoid using any phototoxic essential oils (Bergamot, Lemon, Orange, Lime, Grapefruit) if this will go on the face. Phototoxic essential oils can cause your skin can have a reaction similar to a sunburn, when exposed to the sun. Here are some of my favourites:
- Peppermint EO (Young Living or Plant Therapy) *Not for children age 2-15 or pregnant/nursing mamas*
- Spearmint EO (Young Living or Plant Therapy)
- Rosemary EO (Young Living or Plant Therapy) *Not for children age 2-15 or pregnant/nursing mamas*
- Pine EO (Young Living or Plant Therapy)
- Lavender EO (Young Living or Plant Therapy)
- Roman Chamomile EO (Plant Therapy)
- Cedarwood EO (Young Living or Plant Therapy)
{I use and recommend Young Living Essential Oils and Plant Therapy Essential Oils because they are 100% pure quality essential oils. There are other reputable essential oil companies to purchase from. Your local drug store’s cheap essential oil can give you a rash and not have the same positive effects because most only contain about 10% of the pure oil and the rest is filled with synthetics. Do your research and find a company you feel comfortable purchasing from.}
Finally, shake up the container and it is ready to use! Use a few sprays or drops (whatever your container of choice was) onto hands and gently rub onto freshly shaved skin.
Psst… some extra tips
Try using coconut oil to shave! Read about why and how I do that here.
Shave with a good razor. Try one with no “moisturizing strip” added garbage. Yes, your razor has ingredients…
If you are prone to dry skin, then exfoliate before shaving. Try my natural coffee scrub for soft and glowing skin.
Happy After Shaving 🙂

I can’t wait to make this for the Country Boy! Even if he has a beard, he still has to do the trimming, and this just might make it a more pleasant task! Thanks for the great post!
I hope he enjoys it!
