How to Make Foaming Hand Soap

According to Dr. Bronner’s, the dilution ratio is 1 part liquid castile soap to 4 parts water. Please use this as a guideline to make how much will fit into your soap dispenser (ex. 1/4 cup liquid castile soap to 1 cup of water is a 1:4 ratio).

Find a foaming soap dispenser (preferably glass, especially if using essential oils and because we really do not need this plastic overload).

Add 1/4 cup of liquid castile soap to soap dispenser. If you find the castile soap too drying, add in a teaspoon of vegetable glycerin for moisture – especially in the winter!

Add about 10-20 drops of essential oils to the soap. Essential oils do not mix with water, so the castile soap will act like a binder to combine the recipe together. There are so many amazing scent combinations to create. My favourites include:

Citrus Blend:

Beat the Winter Flus (adults only):

  • 5 drops of Thieves EO Blend (Young Living) a mix of clove, cinnamon bark, rosemary, lemon, and eucalyptus. *Do not use for children age 2-15 or pregnant/nursing mamas*
  • 2 drops of Oregano EO (Young Living or Plant Therapy) I only use 1-2 drops as it is very potent. *Do not use for children age 2-15 or pregnant/nursing mamas*
  • 3 drops Eucalyptus EO (Young Living or Plant Therapy) *Do not use for children age 2-15 or pregnant/nursing mamas*

Beat the Winter Flus (kid friendly):

Floral:

{I use and recommend Young Living Essential Oils and Plant Therapy Essential Oils because they are 100% pure quality essential oils. There are other reputable essential oil companies to purchase from. Your local drug store’s cheap essential oil can give you a rash and not have the same positive effects because most only contain about 10% of the pure oil and the rest is filled with synthetics. Do your research and find a company you feel comfortable purchasing from.}

Really slowly pour in 1 cup of filtered or distilled water or well… bubblemania occurs. Finally put the soap dispenser back together, shake it up a little and wash those hands!

Happy Foamy Handwashing 🙂

Do you make your own soap? What recipe do you use?

  1. I love using our foam dispenser in the main bathroom. It’s so easy, right! Just a few ingredients and done. I can’t believe how many plastic bottles I went through before made the switch, let alone $5 to $8 a bottle of foam hand soap too. Such a waste!

  2. Love this! Do you think it would make a mild enough foaming face wash? I’ve never tried Dr. Bronner’s on my face before. I might give it a go.

      It would be worth a try! I have not used Dr. Bronners soap on my face before because I use the oil cleansing method. If you find it too drying, consider adding a little bit of carrier oil (ex. sweet almond, jojoba) to add some moisture. Let me know how it works out for you!
