Coconut Oil Shave
Back in the “when I was a teenager and would shave the three baby hairs that grew on my legs” days and many years after… I would use shaving cream. A few hours post shaving I would be scratching my legs like crazy. No amount of lotion could soothe the dry and itchy feeling. I would scratch my legs in my sleep and wake up with cat clawed legs… [FYI: not a great summer look.] I tried different brands of “sensitive shaving cream”, “moisturizing strip razors” and it did not seem to make a difference for me.
Then I discovered Coconut Oil for shaving….
…and I waved goodbye to my shaving cream cans and itchy dry legs forever.
Why you will love shaving with Coconut oil
- It feels like a closer and smoother shave because there is not a huge fluff of shaving cream blocking the razor.
- It doubles as a moisturizer and keeps legs itch-free long after the shave.
- NO RAZOR BURN!!!!!
- No toxins being absorbed by the skin from shaving cream.
- Enjoy smooth and silky legs for days. It is a night and day comparison to shaving cream!
How to Shave with Coconut Oil
Start by choosing a good quality coconut oil. An overall good coconut oil to keep in your home is virgin, cold-pressed, and unrefined.
Keep a small jar in the shower to use for shaving. Since I use coconut oil for many things in the bathroom and kitchen, I keep them in separate smaller containers. I don’t want to start the shower and leave a trail of puddles to the kitchen cabinet where I forgot the coconut oil [True story].
Wait until the end of your shower/bath. This is for the warm water to open up your pores. Also, your legs will stay moisturized because you will not be removing the coconut oil with soap.
A little goes a long way. Coconut oil easily coats the skin and you do not need a lot to get good coverage. I use about 1 tablespoon total for both legs.
Spread the coconut oil on your legs. If it is a bit solid, it will melt in your hands and onto your legs very easily. A thin coat on your legs is enough for a good shave.
Shave your legs with your favourite razor. Try one with no “moisturizing strip” added garbage. Yes, your razor has ingredients…
Rinse the razor during and after shaving. I find that I rarely have to rinse the razor more than once per leg, as opposed to one ‘strip’ of shaving cream.
Lightly rinse your legs. You want to remove any excess hair, but not completely rinse of the coconut oil… that is the added moisture benefit!
Enjoy your smooth silky legs for days!
Happy Shaving 🙂
