Dry Shampoo
2nd day hair? [Let’s be honest… maybe 3rd or 4th day hair…]
Going for the John Travolta look from Grease? Me neither.
Slept in!!!! No time for a shower?
Try some dry shampoo!
Why try dry shampoo?
Saves time [You’re welcome for that extra 15-20 minutes of the day not spent showering]
Saves money on: water bill ✔ energy bill ✔ hair products ✔
Using shampoo strips the hair of its natural oils and is not beneficial to use daily. This helps to extend the time between washes. Everyone needs a break… even your hair… mhm it’s fed up.
Switching to no-poo: Dry shampoo can help keep hair looking oil-free during the transition period while hair adjusts to being washed with no-poo.
2nd or 3rd day hair can hold better than freshly washed hair (especially for curls). The dry shampoo will absorb any excess oil for a great style and added volume.
How to Make and Use Dry Shampoo
Store bought aerosol dry shampoo contain propellants such as butane, isobutane, and propane… no thanks. I thought I was cleaning my hair… not BBQing.
For Light Hair: Use arrowroot powder or non-GMO cornstarch.
For Medium to Dark Hair: Use a 50/50 ratio of arrowroot powder and cocoa powder.Do not pull out the N*squik from the pantry – use real cocoa powder.
Start by placing ingredients in a small container with a lid. The container should have a wide enough lid to fit a make-up powder brush inside.
Next add a few drops of essential oils for scent and added hair benefits.Put the lid on and shake it up… or mix with a spoon.

{I use and recommend Young Living Essential Oils and Plant Therapy Essential Oils because they are 100% pure quality essential oils. There are other reputable essential oil companies to purchase from. Your local drug store’s cheap essential oil can give you a rash and not have the same positive effects because most only contain about 10% of the pure oil and the rest is filled with synthetics. Do your research and find a company you feel comfortable purchasing from.}
Dip a make-up powder brush into the container and tap off the excess.
Split hair into about 4 sections (or more for thicker hair) and apply dry shampoo onto the roots. LET IT SIT AND WORK ITS ABSORBING MAGIC. It won’t work as well if it is removed too soon. [Put on your make-up, eat breakfast, or get kids ready in this time].
Rub your fingers through your hair and massage the powder in like real shampoo. Brush hair through to remove any extra residue and style as usual! Flaunt your beautiful hair all day long.
Psst… some extra tips
Apply the dry shampoo before bed. In the morning, quickly run fingers through hair, brush through, and style.
A boar bristle brush will help spread the dry shampoo evenly through your hair and remove chalky residue.
Happy Dry Shampooing 🙂
