Those little amber bottles that essential oils come in can be reused!

Please… don’t throw them away! I swear I’m not a hoarder [says the woman who keeps empty pickle jars, orange peels, and the ends of bread…]

How to Clean Essential Oil Bottles

Once I’ve used every last drop of my essential oils [there always seems to be some minuscule amount left inside that I can’t waste], take apart the bottles (cap and drop reducer) and put them in a resealable glass container full of epsom salt. Essential oils should not be stored in plastic containers, because they are so potent the plastic can disintegrate. Make sure to get the epsom salt all over the inside of the bottles to soak up any last drops. I do this until I have quite a few bottles collected. The bottles should sit for a few days to allow any residual oil to absorb into the epsom salt.

PS: After removing the bottles, there will be a container full of lovely essential oil filled epsom salt -throw a handful into your next bubble bath! Treat yourself! You’re welcome.

Next, move the bottles, caps, and drop reducers into a clean glass bowl full of hot soapy water. Use hot water from the kettle to help the labels come off easily. Let the bottles sit in the water for about 5-10 minutes and pull them out one by one to try to peel off the label. Next, put the bottles back in the water and scrub the outside of the bottles, the caps, and the drop reducers with a sponge. Finally rinse everything and put it out to dry.

The bottles are sparkling clean and ready to be used again!

How to Reuse Essential Oil Bottles:

• Mix your own blend of oils (ex. face serum, massage oil, perfume)
• Transfer some essential oil from another bottle to keep an extra one in your car/purse
• Attach a misting spray top and use as a room spray or fabric/linen refresher
• Make a gift for a friend and share your favourite essential oil or make them a blend
• WHO CARES… they are not in a landfill!
