How to Clean Hair Brushes
After deep cleaning the bathroom vanity, I was ready organize everything and put my hair brushes back in the drawer. How could I put these hairy dirty brushes back in the clean drawer?! As the Queen-of-Clean, I couldn’t do it. I knew it was time for a deep clean!
What’s hiding in your dirty hair brushes?
Oil, hair, dead skin cells, bacteria, old hair products, dust, germies, … all which get re-slathered on your clean hair!
How to Clean Hair Brushes
Gather up all your hair brushes.
Begin by removing as much hair as possible from the brushes. I use my fingers to go down the rows or bristles or a smaller comb to reach the hairs.
Next, fill your sink or a small bowl (just a couple inches high) with warm/hot water. Not too hot that your hands can’t go in!
Add in a squirt of natural shampoo or natural soap. For shampoo, I love to use Rocky Mountain Soap Shampoo or Attitude Shampoo. For soap, I love to use Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Castile Soap.
Let hair brushes sit for 5-10 minutes.
Then, scrub at the hair brush bristles using your fingers or an old toothbrush. Make sure to clean the rest of the hairbrush too!
Rinse hair brushes with warm water and place bristle down on a towel to dry.
Enjoy clean hair brushes! (But not forever! Repeat once a month or every few weeks depending on how frequently you use it and how many hair products you use!)
Happy Hair Brush Cleaning 🙂
How long has it been since your hair brushes have been cleaned? What do you use to clean them?
